Dutch Architecture Students Participate in Joint Workshop at MATE
On 2 June 2026, the Institute of Landscape Architecture, Urban Planning and Garden Art at MATE welcomed a group of eight BSc architecture students and two instructors from Saxion University of Applied Sciences in the Netherlands as part of the ongoing international cooperation between the two institutions.
During the visit, the Dutch students participated in a joint program together with MATE landscape architecture master’s students. The activities included a collaborative scale model-making workshop, a presentation introducing the institute, and a guided tour of the arboretum. The visitors also had the opportunity to view the “Land Art”-style installations created by MATE students within the arboretum environment.
The model-making workshop provided an excellent opportunity for Hungarian and Dutch students to work together creatively and exchange professional experiences in an open and friendly atmosphere. The program also included a sandwich lunch provided by the MATE International Office.
The collaboration between Saxion University of Applied Sciences and MATE was established within the framework of the international E³UDRES² European University Alliance. The first visit by Saxion University’s Faculty of Architecture took place in May 2024, when approximately ten Dutch students and two faculty members visited the institute. During that earlier exchange, students worked together on scale model-making assignments, attended a lecture on the history of landscape architecture education in Hungary, and visited the institute’s graduation exhibition showcasing the work of graduating landscape architecture students.
Both institutions intend to continue and further strengthen this successful cooperation. According to current plans, in spring 2027 a group of MATE landscape architecture master’s students will travel to Enschede to participate in a joint workshop with Saxion University students.
