The aim of the programme is to train animal husbandry engineers who, possessing knowledge in natural sciences, agricultural engineering, food economics, food chain safety, product processing and animal sciences, are able to perform professional tasks related to the production, processing and marketing of animal products. They are qualified to perform managerial tasks in the production and product processing areas of the field, as well as to carry out official regulatory inspection, professional management, planning, research and innovation activities, including synthesis, in the field of animal husbandry. They are prepared to continue their studies in doctoral programmes.

Specific Features of the correspondence work schedule

The curriculum, the structure and progression of knowledge and the final examination requirements are identical to those of the full-time study programme.

  • At the Kaposvár study location: in the part-time study programme, classes are held on Friday afternoons and Saturdays.
  • At the Gödöllő study location: in the part-time study programme, classes are held on Friday afternoons and Saturdays.

Professional practice

A compulsory professional internship must be completed as part of the programme.
In accordance with the Training and Outcome Requirements (KKK), the internship shall be of at least 4 weeks’ duration and shall be completed by students in accordance with the recommended curriculum of the higher education institution as follows:
the duration of the “Continuous Summer Professional Internship” is 160 hours, corresponding to 4 weeks;
if a student commences their studies in September, the internship shall be completed during the summer following the 2nd semester, while enrolment in the course is scheduled for the 3rd semester according to the recommended curriculum;
in the case of a cross-semester intake, the internship shall be completed during the summer following the 1st semester, while enrolment in the course takes place in the 2nd semester.
The internship may be completed at a university internship site, at an external internship site recommended by the Campuses, or, upon application, at an internship site independently selected by the student.
The professional internship may also be completed abroad, for example with the support of the Pannónia Programme or another scholarship programme.

Obligations During the Internship

Throughout the entire internship period, the student shall work under the supervision and direction of the professionals at the internship site. The student’s work may be monitored at any time during the internship by the designated instructor (supervisor) of the University. At the end of the internship, students shall prepare a written report (internship logbook).
The professional internship required as part of the programme may also be completed by having previous work experience recognised. Recognition of previous work experience shall be initiated with the Study and Credit Transfer Committee of the institute responsible for the programme. Only work experience gained in a field relevant to the programme may be recognised, provided that, in terms of the number of hours worked, the duration of the employment is at least equivalent to the duration of the professional internship prescribed by the curriculum. In the case of an application for the recognition of work experience as a professional internship, the Study and Credit Transfer Committee may request the opinion of the Head of Programme and may also request additional information or documentation from the student.
The requirements for enrolment in and completion of the course “Continuous Summer Professional Internship”, as well as the applicable deadlines, are specified in Annex 1.
The detailed requirements for the professional internships are specified in the course syllabi and, depending on the specific arrangements of the Campuses, are published in the electronic study systems (NEPTUN TR and/or Moodle) at the beginning of the relevant internship semester.

Skills and professional competences acquired on completion of the program

Upon completion of the Master’s degree, animal husbandry engineers are able to:

  • plan, organise and manage breeding, as well as the production, processing and marketing processes of animal products, and make a creative contribution to innovation processes;
  • develop and introduce new technologies and methods;
  • develop new technological alternatives for the various sectors of animal husbandry and, by applying their knowledge at an advanced level, adapt complex technological systems;
  • plan and manage the breeding and genetic improvement of farm animal species;
  • perform research and development tasks in commercial livestock production and animal husbandry, and coordinate professional advisory services;
  • independently conduct research in the fields of natural sciences and agricultural sciences;
  • interpret and apply current European Union and national support regulations.

Conditions of obtaining pre-degree certificate (absolutorium)

  • successful completion of all compulsory courses and compulsory elective courses of the programme, as well as the number of free elective credits required by the curriculum and the credits awarded for the preparation of the thesis, amounting to a total of 120 credits;
  • successful completion of the 5-credit professional internship.
     

Final exam

Condition to attend final exam:

  • obtained a pre-degree certificate (absolutorium);
  • submission of thesis and its acceptance by reviewers;
  • the student shall not be in debt to the University.

Parts of final exam:

  • comprehensive complex exam (course exam);
  • thesis defence.

Field of knowledge and subjects of final exam from 2021/22 academic year: Students who commenced their studies in the programme in the 2021/22 academic year or thereafter shall take a comprehensive examination covering the subject matter of the compulsory professional knowledge module in Animal Husbandry Engineering, as follows:
Comprehensive examination in the professional subjects, covering all comprehensive knowledge in animal sciences and breeding and genetic improvement acquired by the student through the various courses completed during the programme. Based on the final examination topic drawn, the candidate shall give an oral presentation, synthesising the most important professional knowledge related to the topic, and shall answer the questions posed by the examination committee. During the final examination, the student shall draw one topic from the list of examination topics.
The comprehensive examination topic list is compiled annually by the Head of Programme, with the involvement of the lecturers responsible for the relevant courses.
