Conscious Tech Week has kicked off at MATE's Szent István Campus in Gödöllő
Hungarian University of Agricultural and Life Sciences (MATE) is joining the European Week for Waste Reduction (EWWR) initiative this year, launching a program entitled "Second Life for Electronics – Conscious Tech Week at MATE" at Szent István Campus between 24-28 November.
The aim of the event is to give new life to electronic devices that have become redundant in homes but are still usable or repairable, thus reducing the amount of waste entering the environment. In addition to the charity campaign, the organizers are also offering interesting professional presentations, workshops, and a composting demonstration for environmentally conscious visitors.
The issue of sustainability has become one of the most important areas of focus for higher education institutions today. Universities not only prepare future generations, but also play a key role in promoting sustainable development. MATE’s 2030 strategy sets as a priority goal that the institution should contribute to strengthening environmental and economic sustainability through exemplary operation and take an active role in addressing domestic and global challenges.
The charity event organized at MATE's Szent István Campus, as part of the EWWR programmes, ties in perfectly with these objectives. In cooperation with Cseriti and Repair Café teams, Szent István Campus is accepting donations of small kitchen appliances and other electronic devices that are in working order, clean, and can be passed on for charitable purposes. A detailed list of acceptable items is available here that you can drop in the boxes placed at the Seminary entrance.
In addition to the charity campaign, the program series will be enriched by professional lectures in English, as it is particularly important for MATE to involve and address foreign students in the program. Topics such as conscious resource use, repair, reuse, and practical opportunities for sustainable living will be highlighted.
With the European Waste Reduction Week series of events— detailed program available here—MATE is also competing for an international award.
