A Visit to Sissy Palace

Vocabulary-building cultural study trip for international students studying in Hungarian

The presence of international students on MATE campuses and in the cities where the campuses are located is a common phenomenon nowadays.

However, there is still room for improvement in communication for both sides, as most students are studying in English, so the interaction in Hungarian is not always smooth. However, there are also foreign students studying at Szent István Campus who study in Hungarian: although not many of them, they take on the challenges and try to complete them with their Hungarian-speaking classmates. For them, a subject that introduces Hungarian cultural values and overcomes language difficulties provides help, within this framework, we visited the Royal Palace of Gödöllő in September 2024.

After admiring the ever-enriching interior of the permanent exhibition, we took a short break in the interactive room (this is also where the photo was taken), then walked through the Palace Park to see the Palm House and the sculptures and pavilion, as well as the processing of their history,  which will be included in the students' written reflections when they report on the trip as an assignment.

Dr. Ildikó Rudnák and Dr. Dóra Kolta assist the language development of international students studying in Hungarian at MATE.
