Moldovan Ambassador visits MATE

Exploring Collaboration Opportunities in Agricultural Sciences

On October 15, Dr. Csaba Gyuricza, Rector of the Hungarian University of Agriculture and Life Sciences - MATE, officially welcomed Oleg Tulea, the Ambassador of the Republic of Moldova to Hungary, at the Szent István Campus. During the meeting, the parties reviewed potential avenues for collaboration in agricultural-focused higher education and research, with a particular emphasis on strengthening ties between universities in the two countries.

The discussions highlighted the educational opportunities offered by MATE for Moldovan students, as well as the possibility of sending Hungarian educators and researchers to the Technical University of Moldova. This partner institution was recently formed through a process of integrating several universities, similar to MATE, providing a solid foundation for future collaborations.

As a result of the meeting, a draft preliminary agreement was presented, outlining the framework for cooperation between the two institutions. The final signing of the agreement is expected to take place in Moldova in the near future, marking the formal launch of a close partnership between the universities.

Dr. Gyuricza also underscored the importance of joint research, with special attention to the activities of the Vegetable Crops Research Institute (ZKI) in Moldova. The institute conducts numerous variety introduction projects and trials in the country, contributing to the successful presence of Hungarian seeds in the Moldovan market.

The Rector of MATE emphasized the potential to expand collaboration in the fields of horticulture, viticulture, and oenology, which could significantly contribute to the development of Moldova's strategic horticultural growth initiatives. He also proposed the launch of joint educational programs, teacher-researcher and student exchange programs, joint publications, and short courses adapted to Moldova's specific needs, which will further strengthen knowledge exchange and relations between the two institutions.
