OPERATIONAL REGULATIONS for Hungarian Diaspora Scholarship Program

IMPORTANT change from 7th February 2024!

Hungarian as a foreign language exam

Scholarship holders studying in shorter study programmes can fulfil their scholarship obligations by passing a Hungarian as a foreign language exam at a level lower than B2; at a level corresponding to the length of the study period, or certifies their knowledge of Hungarian with a document “Certificate of Hungarian Language Assessment Result” issued by MFA Balassi (KKM Magyar Diplomáciai Akadémia Kft.); instead of the state-recognised Hungarian as a foreign language exam. Whereas a B2-level knowledge was the previous requirement for 3-semester-long or longer study programmes, this has now changed, as follows:

  • 3-4 semester-long training period: the required level is A2,
  • 5-7 semester-long training period: the required level is B1,
  • more than 7-semester-long training period: the required level is B2.

The language levels indicated are those of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR).

The change to the requirement is retroactive, therefore students who have already been awarded a scholarship will also benefit from the change.
