Overview

The aim of the program is to train economic professionals who, with their knowledge of economics, applied economics, and methodology, as well as the knowledge acquired within their specializations, are able to understand, plan, and analyze the operational processes and economic relationships of economic organizations and institutions. After obtaining practical knowledge and experience, they will be able to manage and organize economic and entrepreneurial activities and processes. They will be prepared to continue their studies in a master's program.

Programme Learning Outcomes

  • Orientation of the program: practice orientation (60-70 percent)
  • Minimum credit value for continuous practical training outside the institution: 30 credits, of which the credit value assigned to the thesis is 10 credits.
  • Minimum credit value for optional subjects: 10 credits.

7. The aim of training and professional competences of the undergraduate’s degree  

The aim of the program is to train economic professionals who, with their knowledge of economics, applied economics, and methodology, as well as the knowledge acquired within their specializations, are able to understand, plan, and analyze the operational processes and economic relationships of economic organizations and institutions. After obtaining practical knowledge and experience, they will be able to manage and organize economic and entrepreneurial activities and processes. They will be prepared to continue their studies in a master's program. 

7.1. Professional competencies to be acquired 

7.1.1. Economist in Business Administration and Management’s 

a) knowledge 

  • Has knowledge of the basic, comprehensive concepts, theories, facts, national economic and international contexts of economics, as well as the relevant economic actors, functions, and processes.
  • Has mastered the basic theories and characteristics of micro and macro levels of economic organization, and possesses basic information gathering, mathematical, and statistical analysis methods.
  • Is familiar with the rules and ethical norms of cooperation in projects, teams, and work organizations, as well as project management.
  • Is aware of the principles and methods of establishing organizations and institutions, developing and changing their structure and organizational behavior. Knows and understands the basic principles and methods of managing, organizing, and operating business processes, the methodology of analyzing business processes, and the methodological basis of decision preparation and decision support.
  • Knows the basics of other fields related to their field of expertise (technical, legal, environmental, quality assurance, etc.).
  • Has basic knowledge of management and organization, as well as the preparation, launch, and management of projects and small and medium-sized enterprises.
  • Is familiar with the functioning of organizations and the use of IT and office technology tools that support management processes.
  • Has mastered professional and effective written and oral communication skills, as well as tabular and graphical methods of data presentation.
  • Possesses a basic professional vocabulary in economics in their native language and at least one foreign language.

b) competencies 

  • Plans and organizes economic activities and projects, manages and supervises small businesses and economic organizations.
  • Using the theories and methods learned, they uncover, systematize, and analyze facts and fundamental relationships, formulate independent conclusions and critical observations, prepare proposals for decision-making, and make decisions in routine and partially unfamiliar domestic and international environments.
  • They follow and interpret global economic and international business processes, changes in economic policy and related policies and legislation relevant to their field of expertise, and their effects, taking these into account in their analyses, proposals, and decisions.
  • Is able to determine the complex consequences of economic processes and organizational events.
  • Is able to apply techniques for solving economic problems and problem-solving methods, taking into account their conditions and limitations.
  • Is able to cooperate with representatives of other fields.
  • Participates in projects and group tasks, and after acquiring practical knowledge and experience, leads, organizes, evaluates, and supervises activities as a manager.
  • After acquiring practical knowledge and experience, is capable of managing small and medium-sized enterprises and organizational units in business organizations.
  • They present professionally formulated professional proposals and positions, both verbally and in writing, in Hungarian and foreign languages, in accordance with the rules of professional communication.
  • They are capable of using a foreign language at an intermediate level for professional purposes.

c) attitudes 

  • In order to perform high-quality work, he/she demonstrates problem-sensitive, proactive behavior, and is constructive, cooperative, and proactive in projects and group tasks.
  • Receptive to new information, new professional knowledge, and methodologies, open to taking on new, independent, and collaborative tasks and responsibilities. Strives to develop their knowledge and working relationships, collaborating with colleagues in this endeavor.
  • Is open to changes in the broader economic and social environment of the given job, work organization, or enterprise, and strives to follow and understand these changes.
  • Receptive to the opinions of others and to sectoral, regional, national, and European values (including social, ecological, and sustainability considerations).

  • Strives for lifelong learning both inside and outside the world of work.

d) autonomy and responsibilities 

  • Under general professional supervision, independently performs and organizes the tasks specified in the job description.
  • Takes responsibility for analyses, conclusions, and decisions.
  • Independently manages, organizes, and directs an organizational unit, work group, or business within a business organization, or a smaller business organization, taking responsibility for the organization and its employees.
  • Organizes, manages, and supervises economic activities in accordance with their qualifications in an economic position within a business organization. 
  • Takes responsibility for complying with professional, legal, and ethical standards and rules related to their work and conduct.
  • As a member of projects, group work, and organizational units, they perform their tasks independently and responsibly.
  • They give presentations and lead discussions independently. They participate independently and responsibly in the work of professional forums within and outside the business organization.

8. Characteristics of the undergraduate training 

8.1. Professional characteristics 

The disciplines and field of study that make up the program and lead to professional qualification: 

  • economics, methodology, and business knowledge (mathematics, statistics, information technology, micro- and macroeconomics, international economics, finance, business economics, economic law, marketing, accounting management, business communication, technical language, environmental economics, other basic business knowledge) 80-90 credits;
  • social sciences (European Union, general and economic law, economic history, sociology, psychology, philosophy) 10-20 credits;
  • business and management skills (corporate finance, accounting analysis, human resource management, marketing management, leadership and organization, value creation process management, decision theory and methodology, controlling, business ethics, strategic planning, production management, process and quality management, human resource management, team management, public management, organizational methodology, information management, and elective specializations) 70-90 credits.

8.1.2. The maximum number of credits that can be earned in specialized fields corresponding to the requirements of the profession of economist with knowledge of economics and management is 30 credits within the entire program.

8.2. Requirements of professional practice/internship

The internship is a semester-long, minimum twelve-week continuous internship as specified in the curriculum of the higher education institution.
