Foundation Course for Studies in English
for students applying to Bachelor’s and Master’s degree programmes at the Hungarian University of Agriculture and Life Sciences (MATE), Hungary
Description of the Foundation Course (FC):
We offer a preparatory course for students whose professional skills and knowledge of English are not sufficient for enrolment in Bachelor’s or Master’s degree programmes in Engineering (Technology), Agricultural Sciences, or Business and Management (Economics) at MATE.
FC students improve their English language skills and study the subjects required to begin their chosen academic programme at MATE.
Requirements for entry to the Course: Successful completion of secondary education.
English language requirements: level B1
Entrance exam: All applicants are required to take a written placement test and participate in an oral interview.
Duration of the course:
Length of the first semester:
• from the first week of September– mid-December, plus the examination period (December – January)
• 390 hours (13 weeks, 30 hours/week)
Length of the second semester:
• from the first week of February – mid-May, plus the examination period (mid-May-June)
• 390 hours (13 weeks, 30 hours/week)
Total length of the course:
• 26 weeks
• 780 hours, plus the examination periods
Tuiton fee: 4100 EUR

Dormitory: 45 000 HUF (approx. 150 EUR)/student/month
Health insurance (not included in the tuition fee: to be covered by the students
Self-financed students
Self-financed students must register for the Foundation Course on the following website: https://apply.uni-mate.hu/
In order to receive the Letter of Acceptance (LOA), the full tuition fee must be transferred to the university’s account.
Stipendium Hungaricum Scholarship
Students who have been awarded a Stipendium Hungaricum scholarship for a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree programme in Engineering at MATE may, upon the recommendation of the admission committee, apply to the Tempus Public Foundation for an extension of their SH scholarship in order to participate in the Foundation Course for Studies in English.
SH scholarship holders are required to study Hungarian as a foreign language (4 classes per week in each semester).
