Anthropocene Award – in Service of Science and Impactful Education
The Hungarian University of Agriculture and Life Sciences (MATE) has founded the international Anthropocene Award this year. Through this award, the University recognizes international researchers whose work in agricultural sciences, climate science, and life sciences has made an outstanding impact beyond academia, advancing climate resilience and human wellbeing in response to the complex challenges of the Anthropocene era. The Award also plays a key role in strengthening MATE’s international visibility and partnerships, while deepening the global connection between science, education, and practice.
The Anthropocene Award is announced in three categories:
- Lifetime Academic Achievement – Honoring a world-leading researcher for outstanding and sustained professional achievement in their field and for a significant contribution to the development of the scientific community. The recipient is selected by an evaluation committee.
- Emerging Academic (under 40 years of age) – Recognizing an internationally outstanding early-career researcher whose work stands out among their peers, and whose future scientific activity is expected to play a defining role in their field based on their already promising achievements. The recipient is selected by an evaluation committee.
- Inspiring Educator – Celebrating an internationally outstanding researcher who inspires the University’s student community through exceptional scientific communication, enthusiasm, and dedication, making teaching and research careers more attractive and supporting the next generation of educators and researchers. In this category, the recipient is chosen by the MATE student community.
The Anthropocene Awards will be presented in a formal ceremony in March 2026. During the event, the three awardees will deliver lectures, followed by an opportunity to meet and engage with MATE students, staff, and partners.
