Overview
The aim of the training is to train environmental engineers who have modern, applied natural science, ecological, technical, economic and management knowledge. Students are able to identify environmental hazards in various areas, and with their professional experience, they are able to economically and effectively manage preventive and damage prevention activities. With their professional knowledge, they are able to participate in prevention, reduction and elimination of environmental harm and damage, in the pursuit of rational use of natural resources, and in the operation of low-waste and energy-efficient technologies. They are prepared to continue their studies in a master's degree programme.

7. Training objectives and professional competencies of the bachelor’s programme
The aim of the training is to train environmental engineers who have modern, applied natural science, ecological, technical, economic and management knowledge. Students are able to identify environmental hazards in various areas, and with their professional experience, they are able to economically and effectively manage preventive and damage prevention activities. With their professional knowledge, they are able to participate in prevention, reduction and elimination of environmental harm and damage, in the pursuit of rational use of natural resources, and in the operation of low-waste and energy-efficient technologies. They are prepared to continue their studies in a master's degree programme.
Professional competencies to be acquired
The Environmental engineer
a) according to his/her knowledge
- knows the general and specific mathematical, natural and social science principles, rules and relationships necessary for the practice of the environmental protection field.
- possesses modern IT knowledge and can use professional databases and depending on his/her specialization, certain design, modeling and simulation software.
- knows the learning, knowledge acquisition and data collection methods of the environmental protection field, their ethical limitations and problem-solving techniques.
- has a comprehensive knowledge of the basic characteristics and relationships of environmental elements and systems and the environmentally harmful substances that affect them.
- knows the concepts and tools of economics and environmental economics, project and environmental management in the field of environmental protection.
- knows the main environmental protection technologies, equipment and artifacts that can be connected to the technology and their operation and maintenance.
- knows the main methods suitable for examining the quantitative and qualitative characteristics of environmental elements and systems, their typical measuring devices and their limitations, and the methods for evaluating measured data.
- knows the basics of energy management, the possibilities of energy production, its advantages and disadvantages, the concept of sustainable development and its implementation possibilities.
- knows the methodology and legal regulations for conducting environmental impact assessments and compiling impact studies.
- knows the occupational and fire safety, safety technology and damage prevention regulations and methods related to the field of environmental protection.
b) according to his/her competencies
- able to perform basic examinations of the quantitative and qualitative characteristics of environmental elements and systems using modern measuring instruments, to compile measurement plans, to implement them and to evaluate the data.
- able to solve water, soil, air, radiation and noise protection, as well as waste management and processing tasks at the proposal level, to participate in decision-making, to participate in official inspections and to operate these technologies.
- able to conduct environmental impact assessments and to participate in the compilation of impact studies.
- able to apply environmental damage prevention methods, to prepare damage prevention and to participate in damage prevention.
- able to apply in practice the regulations and requirements of the work, fire protection and safety technology areas related to their field of expertise.
- able to communicate professionally, orally and in writing, in their native language and at least one foreign language and to continuously develop their professional knowledge as needed.
- after learning the assigned task, he/she is able to perform administrative tasks related to environmental protection and perform official tasks.
- has the necessary stamina and tolerance for monotony to perform practical activities.

- based on his/her knowledge, he/she is able to participate in the implementation and control of projects and tenders.

- during the development and application of production and other technologies, he/she is able to cooperate with the engineers developing and applying the given technology to develop the technology from an environmental perspective.
- thanks to his/her multidisciplinary knowledge, he/she is suitable for creative participation in engineering work and able to adapt to constantly changing requirements.
- after learning the technology, he/she is able to reveal the shortcomings of the applied technologies and the risks of the processes and initiates measures to reduce them.

8. Characteristics of the bachelor programme
8.1. Professional characteristics
8.1.1. The disciplines and scientific areas leading to the professional qualification on which the programme is built.
- natural science knowledge (at least 12 credits in mathematics, at least 12 credits in chemistry, at least 6 credits in biology and ecology, at least 6 credits in physics) 40-60 credits;
- economic and human knowledge 10-30 credits;
- technical engineering knowledge 20-50 credits;
- protection of environmental elements 30-70 credits;
- environmental analysis, environmental informatics 10-30 credits;
- environmental management 10-30 credits.
8.1.2. Considering the optional specializations:
- project management, corporate economics, decision-making tools,
- alternative environmentally friendly technologies,
- environmental management, environmental economics, environmental management,
- solving nature conservation tasks,
- participation in environmental expert, consultant, decision-making work,
- administrative, local government environmental protection (settlement environmental protection) authority, inspector, expert activity,
- special knowledge that can be acquired in the fields of quality assurance, IT, law, and economics related to the field of environmental protection.
The specialization that can be offered by the training institution is at least 40 credits within the entire training.
8.2. Requirement for the internship
The internship is a professional practice of at least six weeks duration. The internship is a requirement.
