The primary objective of the Guba Sándor College for Advanced Studies in Agricultural Sciences and Nature Conservation is to foster talent, support the next generation of researchers, and educate professionally committed graduates. The College was established in 2012 for students of the Faculty of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences of Kaposvár University and has since continuously carried out activities related to talent development, scientific work, and community building. Student self-organization is a fundamental element of the College’s operation, ensuring that its programmes are tailored to the professional interests and development needs of its students.

The host institute of our College is the Institute of Animal Sciences of the Hungarian University of Agriculture and Life Sciences (MATE), which provides a stable and high-quality professional and academic background for our activities. The Institute’s educational and research activities, together with the professional expertise of its lecturers and researchers, establish a direct connection between the students of the College and the scientific work carried out at the University. This environment enables students to become involved in research programmes during their studies, become familiar with modern research methods, and gain experience in analysing and presenting scientific results. At the same time, the College follows an interdisciplinary approach, with activities covering a broad range of agricultural sciences as well as various fields of nature conservation.

The professional study trips organized by the College provide students with opportunities to gain first-hand experience in the practical fields of agriculture and nature conservation. Visits to production facilities, research institutions, and nature conservation sites help students deepen the theoretical knowledge acquired during their university studies while developing their practical and problem-solving skills. These professional programmes also provide opportunities for students to establish connections with professionals working in agriculture, research, and nature conservation.

In addition to scientific activities, our College is an integral part of student community life. We place particular emphasis on community building and regularly organize team-building programmes and other social events. These activities allow students to get to know one another in a more informal environment, develop their cooperation and communication skills, and establish professional and personal relationships that may remain valuable beyond their university years.

The College also plays an important role in supporting Scientific Students’ Associations (TDK) activities. Our aim is to assist students in conducting their research and preparing their theses, from formulating research questions and designing experiments to analysing and evaluating results and presenting them in a scientific context. We also encourage students to present their findings at conferences and publish their results, thereby supporting their professional development, helping them begin a scientific career, and increasing their visibility within their respective fields.

The Guba Sándor College for Advanced Studies in Agricultural Sciences and Nature Conservation therefore provides opportunities for professional development, a supportive scientific environment, and a close-knit student community. The professional background provided by the Institute of Animal Sciences, student self-organization, scientific activities, practice-oriented programmes, and community-building initiatives together create an environment that supports students’ professional and personal development and prepares them to carry out meaningful and valuable work in agriculture, research, and nature conservation.
