Graduating Without Borders: MATE Celebrates the Class of 2026
Hungarian University of Agriculture and Life Sciences (MATE) proudly celebrated the graduation of around 100 international students from its Szent István and Kaposvár campuses, representing 49 countries across the world. Surrounded by their families, professors, diplomats and friends, the graduates marked the successful completion of a remarkable academic journey defined by dedication, resilience and intercultural experience.
In his ceremonial address, Vice Rector for Science and International Affairs Prof. Dr. Zoltán Kovács reminded graduates that "knowledge has no borders" and encouraged them to carry MATE's values into their future careers, adding: "Today is both an end and a beginning. You leave as graduates, but you step forward as professionals, innovators, and global citizens."
Ms. Orsolya Jánosik, Director for Study in Hungary at TEMPUS Public Foundation in her speech recognized the students' achievements, celebrating the transformative experience of studying abroad, emphasizing the value of international networks, and encouraged the graduates to remain connected to the university and the Hungarian academic community. "Today, you receive more than a diploma—you receive recognition for your perseverance, resilience, and courage. Your achievements reflect not only academic success, but also the determination to embrace new cultures, overcome challenges, and grow beyond your comfort zone."
Representing the academics, Dr. Ákos Tarnawa emphasized that a university degree is not the end of learning, but "the beginning of responsibility," encouraging graduates to use their knowledge to serve people and build a more sustainable future. On behalf of the graduating class, Gertrude Norkye Osei from Ghana reflected on the shared challenges of studying abroad with a heartfelt message: "We didn't get the manual either, but yet here we are." She also reminded her fellow graduates that "our degrees carry our names on them individually, but they also carry the fingerprints of many whose names you may not see on these certificates."
The ceremony also recognized students for their outstanding academic achievements, exceptional theses and dedicated contributions to the international student community. Musical performances, the graduates' oath and the presentation of diplomas made the celebration even more memorable.
As the newest members of the MATE alumni family embark on the next chapter of their lives, they leave not only with internationally recognized qualifications, but also with lifelong friendships, valuable experiences and a lasting connection to their alma mater.
MATE warmly congratulates all graduates and wishes them every success in their professional and personal journeys.
