Call for Applications: Summer School 2026 

Join us for the Summer School on 

Modern Methods of Efficient Research and Publishing 
Dates: 20-26 July 2026
hosted by the Hungarian University of Agriculture and Life Sciences
at the Kaposvár Campus, 7400 Kaposvár, Guba Sándor str. 40. 

We invite university students and early-career researchers to join us for an enriching summer school program focused on modern methods of efficient research and publishing. The professional program includes lectures and workshops led by experts, covering cutting-edge research techniques and practical strategies for publishable results in prestigious journals. 

Program Goal and Structure 

The seminar provides a practical overview of cutting-edge research methods, emphasising publishable results in top journals, with 75% general topics, and 25% social and economic research specifics. No informatics background is required. Sessions will run daily, blending lectures, workshops, and case studies. 

Key Topics 

  •     Basic science concepts, science-innovation links (Oslo/Frescati models), triple helix. 
  •     Research ethics, GDPR, plagiarism prevention, academic integrity. 
  •     Performance evaluation: bibliometrics, scientometrics, key databases. 
  •     Review writing: systematic reviews (PRISMA, PROSPERO, Cochrane), tips/tricks. 
  •     R ecosystem intro, big data bibliometrics, qualitative methods (interviews, eye-tracking). 
  •     Quantitative tools: databases, time-series, panel analysis, structural equations. 
  • Academic writing: article crafting, system dynamics, grant applications, manuscript management

The call for applications is open until June 15th 2026.  

Notification of acceptance will be sent to selected participants by 30th June 2026; spots are limited, with certificates awarded upon full attendance and participation. 

Venue and Leisure 

The Summer School will be hosted at MATE’s Kaposvár Campus in southwestern Hungary, south of Lake Balaton. The Campus features modern teaching facilities, dormitory accommodation, indoor/outdoor public places and a restaurant, creating an ideal setting for a memorable experience.  

The programme also includes leisure and cultural activities. Participants will spend time at the nearby Lake Deseda, the longest artificial lake in Hungary, where they can enjoy walking, swimming, boating, cycling, and the surrounding natural environment. 

Other activities include: 

  •     An excursion to Bőszénfai Deer Farm
  •     A visit to a demonstration lab at Kaposvár University Hospital) 
  •     Shared culinary activities preparing traditional Hungarian dishes; gulyás & kürtőskalács 

Participant requirements 

  •     Be university students or early-career researchers 
  •     Be motivated to engage in trans-disciplinary discussions on research methods and publishing.  
  •     Be available for the entire duration of the Summer School, and must be prepared to participate in all activities.  
  •     Have a good command of spoken and written English. 
  •     Bring laptops with administrator rights for software demonstrations. 

Financial Details 

The Summer School will be self-funded at €550 covering: 

  •     Professional program 
  •     Double-room dorm accommodation  
  •     Three daily meals, and social activities.  

An additional non-refundable application fee of €50 applies.  

Payment is due upon acceptance. Please note that no scholarships are available. 

Health Insurance 

It is highly advisable to obtain health insurance for the duration of your stay, in addition to the European Health Insurance Card, which covers only basic services.

Prof. Dr. Zoltán Lakner, Hungarian University of Agriculture and Life Sciences, leads with expertise in Research Methodologies.
