MATE to launch joint Hungarian-Azeri agricultural study programmes

Dr. Katalin Posta, Vice Rector for Science and Quality Assurance of the Hungarian University of Agriculture and Life Sciences, welcomed Majnun Mammadov, Minister of Agriculture of Azerbaijan, on Szent István Campus in Gödöllő on 12 July. During the meeting, the possibilities of cooperation between MATE and Azerbaijani universities were discussed.

During the professional exchange of views, the parties also discussed the launch of several dual degree courses. It was mentioned that the Hungarian University of Agriculture and Life Sciences would be a partner in the launch of joint degree courses - at cost price - in the framework of which students would study the basic subjects in Azerbaijan and the subjects requiring complex expertise in Hungary from the third semester. Dr. Katalin Posta presented the structure of the university, its institutes and courses. She also pointed out that MATE currently has nearly 900 international students from 105 countries of the world, including 15 Azeris, studying at different levels. She added that the university is now involved in more than 300 bilateral partnerships, which is why Azerbaijan's initiative and interest in joint work was welcomed. She said that MATE is open to cooperation in both education and research.

Minister of Agriculture Majnun Mammadov expressed his gratitude for the joint reflection and exploration of opportunities. He said that the reform of agricultural education in Azerbaijan is currently underway, in which the experience of Hungarian experts would be welcome. In response, Dávid Békési, International Director of MATE, confirmed that the university was open to organising short-term training courses, even in line with the needs of the companies concerned, and that the Hungarian University of Agricultural and Life Sciences would also work out any proposals that would help development.

​​​​​​It was said at the meeting that cooperation between the universities of the two nations could ideally start as early as the first semester of this year, especially in the field of joint education in agricultural studies.

Negotiations are currently underway between the Hungarian University of Agricultural and Life Sciences and the Azerbaijan State University to prepare a cooperation agreement. An Erasmus+ agreement is currently in force between the two higher education institutions for the period 2019-2027, as well as with Baku Business University for the period 2024-2027.

​​​​​Majnun Mammadov, Minister of Agriculture of the Republic of Azerbaijan, concluded by saying that, based on the briefings, he sees opportunities for cooperation in a number of areas and ways in the future. Dr. Katalin Posta, Vice Rector, assured that MATE would be happy to contribute to the creation and development of joint training.
