QS workshop at MATE - this time in the spirit of performance
For the second time, a workshop for MATE's ranking professionals was held by London-based Quacquarelli Symonds (QS), the world's largest global higher education network connecting universities, business schools and students. The event was held on the afternoon of 25 June 2024 at the University's Szent István Campus in Gödöllő, with nearly 20 participants, and the topic this time was the analysis of the University's Performance to date.
QS was represented by consultant, project manager Mariuxi Alvarado and senior consultant Daniel Kahn. The experts were welcomed by Dr. Zoltán Kovács, Head of Research Strategy International Affairs Advisor of the Institute, full professor and a small team of ranking experts at the Buda Campus. In an informal meeting over coffee, the questions raised during the previous workshop on Methodology were discussed. Afterwards, the delegation visited the Buda Botanical Garden and was welcomed by Rector Dr. Csaba Gyuricza after a lunch in Gödöllő. During the brief discussion, it was highlighted that "Agriculture and Forestry", an area in which the University has already made significant progress, remains a priority for MATE in strengthening its ranking and visibility.
During the afternoon workshop the strengths and weaknesses of the University relevant to the ranking were discussed, as well as its potential for improvement. The workshop was attended by a number of departments from the University that have been active in previous ranking data services, as well as by Milestone, which has been supporting the University's ranking development activities for several years. The QS consultants' presentation, which included a number of new features, was a great opportunity for participants to ask questions and to think together.
This June workshop was one of 5 professional meetings that will take place in the framework of the strategic cooperation between the Ministry of Culture and Innovation of Hungary and QS to enhance the global recognition and performance of Hungarian universities in 2024/25. The aim of the workshops was to deepen the understanding of the QS ranking methodology and to increase the visibility of Hungarian Universities. In the case of our University, they are primarily aimed at enhancing its Employer and Academic Reputation and consolidating and further developing its position as "the best Hungarian university" in the field of Agriculture and Forestry.
Commenting on the ranking activities, senior advisor Daniel Kahn stressed that "the development of university rankings is a common cause. Only if everyone plays their part in promoting it can significant progress be made".
