Collaboration Begins with Moldova Technical University in the Spirit of Technology Transfer and Agricultural Innovation
Dr. Csaba Gyuricza, Rector of the Hungarian University of Agriculture and Life Sciences (MATE), and Dávid Békési, Director of International Relations, visited Chișinău to strengthen cooperation with the Technical University of Moldova (UTM) and explore new opportunities in joint programs, agricultural innovation, and research. Following bilateral discussions, the rectors formalized their intentions by signing a cooperation agreement.
The agreement focuses on fostering closer collaboration in educational and research activities and expanding student and staff mobility programs. This includes opportunities for MATE community members to participate in short- and long-term professional exchanges under the Pannonia Program.
Rector Viorel Bostan, alongside Vice Rector for Education Vladislav Reșitca and Vice Rector for International Relations Daniela Pojar, welcomed the Hungarian delegation.
The Moldovan representatives emphasized that the partnership could be built on mutual exchanges of best practices, pointing out parallels in challenges and opportunities stemming from institutional integration, as UTM merged with the State Agrarian University over the past two years.
Rector Viorel Bostan highlighted that the administrative challenges following the integration have largely been addressed through their own IT systems and software solutions. He also commended MATE for its progress in becoming an entrepreneurial university and its comprehensive research portfolio.
During a visit to the Faculty of Food Technology and Viticulture, the dean showcased the faculty’s infrastructure, which boasts advanced technologies made possible by European and American development funds. These resources support cutting-edge research linked to the globally significant food supply chain. The parties agreed to identify joint training opportunities in food science and viticulture, building on both institutions’ international experience and expertise in these fields.
Rector Dr. Csaba Gyuricza stressed that, based on MATE’s existing joint food industry master's programs, competitive courses tailored to regional needs and labor market expectations could also be developed with the Moldovan partner. To prepare for these programs, six individuals (students, researchers, and lecturers) from MATE will visit Chișinău next semester, while the Moldovan side will allocate resources for mobility as well.
The Hungarian delegation also visited the Tekwill innovation hub, a center for modern technologies, entrepreneurship, talent development, and mentorship. As part of the program, they explored the Fablab prototyping workshop and the Engineering Club "Micro Lab," which support creative innovation and practical experience acquisition for students and professionals in a high-quality, collaborative environment.
Key topics during the meetings included digital innovations, sustainable technical technologies, and research in crop production and plant protection, all aimed at strengthening the long-term partnership between the two institutions.
