Imre Csávás, fisheries expert and former student of Gödöllő University of Agricultural Sciences, received a plaque at Kasetsart University in Bangkok

Imre Csávás was an eminent student at the former Agricultural University of Gödöllő from 1953 and an active participant in student life. After his graduation he worked as head of department of the Fish Culture Research Institute in Szarvas, the predecessor of Research Center for Fisheries and Aquaculture (HAKI) in the Institute of Aquaculture and Environmental Safety of MATE (AKI).

His work contributed to the development of international relations not only of HAKI but also of Hungary in the field of freshwater aquaculture. Between 1983 and 1995 he worked as a senior staff member of the FAO Regional Fisheries Centre for Asia and the Pacific in Bangkok. During this time he assisted in the preparation and implementation of aquaculture development programmes in some 30 Asian countries. He was elected an Honorary Member of the World Aquaculture Society (WAS) in 1996. Imre Csávás's daughter Kati worked at HAKI until her death and his granddaughter is still an employee of HAKI.

The memorial plaque, which was financially supported by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade, was ceremonially presented by Dr. Sándor Sipos, Ambassador of Hungary to Bangkok and Dr. Chongrak Wachrinrat, President of Kasetsart University, Thailand, on 24 September 2024.
